Motor vehicle & automotive electrical training

The Locktronics automotive range has been designed to meet the requirements of automotive engineering course standards set by the IMI, City & Guilds and BTEC. The range is split into three levels, basic, intermediate and advanced and is ideal for automotive technicians to gain a good understanding of electrics, circuits and circuit fault finding, moving through to more complex solutions for understanding of ECUs and CAN bus in vehicles.

Sense & control in automotive

This solution provides an introduction to the role of an Electronic Control Unit. Students use a number of prewritten programs for the MIAC Electronic Control Unit (ECU)


CAN bus systems and operation

This kit allows a functioning CAN system, mimicking vehicle operation, to be set up using 5 MIACs representing the instrument panel, ECUs, Powertrain control, and system diagnosis


Hybrid vehicle demonstration system

This ‘one per class’ kit is designed to give you a flexible suite of parts that can be added to the Electrical and electronic principles pack to allow a much wider range of experiments.

Electricity, magnetism and materials

This kit provides a comprehensive range of practical assignments into electricity and magnetism and is ideal for those who are studying science and electricity.


AC principles for technicians

This course provides an introduction to AC electrical principles that underpins many automotive units.


Intro to motors, generators and hybrid

This solution allows students to investigate the electrical principles behind motors and generators and is designed to support the teaching of a range of automotive units.


Introduction to digital electronics

This course covers the basics of digital electronics, a core topic in modern automotive electrical technology. In doing so, it supports the delivery of a range of automotive units.

We have recently purchased the CAN bus Locktronics kits from Matrix to reflect the more complex systems now being introduced to our vehicles. This has allowed us to better structure our courses.

Increasing the practical content when using these kits, has a distinct advantage in that it gives our students more of a hands on approach to these new technologies.
